奥格斯堡:1776年。

 

第一版奥格斯堡印刷本。对开本,20世纪中期棕褐色摩洛哥半皮与布面装帧,品相精美,书脊烫金文字;38.5 x 23.5厘米,插图书边极宽。

包括书名页在内共6幅图版,由普罗布斯特根据皮勒门特的原画稿蚀刻而成。在第一张空白页上有伯明翰阿瑟办公室的小巧整齐的印章,其他书页无任何标记。这套蚀刻版画最早是由列维兹于1770年在巴黎印制。

 

皮勒门特是18世纪中叶欧洲最有影响力的装饰和装饰画工之一。他的法式洛可可风是整个欧洲中国风的当代时尚的典型代表。他创作的奇妙的鸟类、植物、人类和建筑形象被使用到瓷器、银器、漆器和镀金家具上,以及丝绸、纸张或亚麻的壁饰上,也存在于壁画,或花园装饰的设计中。他的关于欧洲和东方幻想题材的完整作品包含了近300幅铜板或木版版画作品,常以六幅版画为一套,于1757-1776年间作为装饰品发行。在市场上稀少罕见。

First Augsburg printing. Folio, fine copy in a mid-20th century binding of tan half morocco and cloth, gilt-lettered spine; a tall copy at 38.5 x 23.5 cm, with wide plate margins.

With 6 plates including title, etched by Probst after drawings by Pillement. With the small, neat stamp of the Birmingham Assay Office on the first blank leaf, otherwise unmarked throughout. This suite of etchings was first printed in Paris by Leviez in 1770.

 

Pillement was one of the most influential decorative and ornamental draughtsmen in mid-18th century Europe. His French rococco style was primarily responsible for the contemporary fashion in Chinoiserie throughout Europe. The fantastic birds, flora, human and architectural figures he created were transposed onto porcelain, silver, and lacquered and gilt furniture, as well as to wall coverings in silk, paper or linen, or as frescoes, or in the design of garden ornaments. His complete published work of fantastical subjects, European and Oriental, contains nearly 300 etchings or engravings, most often in 'cahier' of 6 plates, issued from 1757-1776 as 'Ornament'. All are scarce and rarely available on the market.

Not listed in Cordier, Lust or Lowendahl.
