In 2020 Mrs. Grigor-Tayor celebrates 60 years in the antiquarian book trade. While studying Asian Affairs at university her career in the book trade began in 1960 with an apprenticeship under Warren R. Howell, president of John Howell - Books in San Francisco, past-president of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America. She immediately took on the cataloguing of a collection of early PacificVoyages, having spent childhood years in Asia and the Pacific.

In 1965 she opened her own book shop in Auckland, New Zealand, and by 1972 was working as a cataloguer at The Library Company of Philadelphia under Edwin Wolf, who learned the book trade from A.S.W. Rosenbach in the 1930s. Following a move to London in 1974 she managed, and then purchased, a bookshop in the Princes Arcade, Piccadilly. This was the start of Cavendish Rare Books, which thrived in that location until 1991 and today operates from a private premises in London.

The opportunity to create a collection of Voyages & Exploration from the 16th - 20th centuries took her to California and, briefly, to New York and Charleston, South Carolina. With that collection catalogued and shelved in a private library in California, Mrs. Grigor-Taylor returned to London in 2003 to complete a 30-year project to form a book collection on China, Russia & the West for a private client, which is now housed in a major British college library. This was followed by the formation of a substantial collection of livres d'artistes, now a notable addition to another major college library. Since 2007 Cavendish Rare Books has exhibited at every Hong Kong Antiquarian Book Fair, concentrating again in the specialized field of Asia and the West.

Between many moves and many book shops, Mrs. Grigor-Taylor has crossed the Pacific in a small yacht and in cargo ships, and taken part in expeditions to the Himalayas & Karakoram, to Central Asia, Tibet, Outer Mongolia and Russian Turkestan. First-hand knowledge of these regions and continuing research remain invaluable to Cavendish Rare Books.
